LIFE:
Toothbrushing Method Without a Toothbrush and Toothpaste. Me in a Year. Saving for Vanlife. Sports and Meditation at the Tonkuhle.
20th October 2024.
Hello! I woke up around 9 a.m., awakened by the sun rays. ☀️ I started by ordering organic raw cacao for cacao ceremonies.
At the Tonkuhle, I did some sports, had breakfast, and meditated for half an hour. At the end, I cooled my feet in the water of the Tonkuhle.
After this perfect start to the day, I walked to the city center. An old man, pushing a wheelchair, stopped just in front of me, took off his T-shirt, and started telling me his life story. 😄
I went to the Espresso House and thought: the more common interests I share with my relationship partner, the stronger the sense of connection will be. The more I would look forward to seeing my partner.
I sat down in the Espresso House and enjoyed my Sunday reading Precht's book:
- According to Helen Fisher, love consists of three components: lust, attraction, and attachment.
- The hypothalamus controls sexual desire. Studies show that this area of the brain is also linked to feelings of being in love.
- Pheromones in men are a byproduct of testosterone and are excreted through sweat.
- Humans can smell not only with their nose but also with their skin.
- According to international statistics, couples tend to break up after about four years.
- Oxytocin (the cuddle hormone) is not only released during sex but already when seeing the partner, during hugs, caresses, and massages.
- Love is not an emotion (like hunger) but a feeling. A feeling is an emotion connected to a thought. Emotions fade quickly, while feelings can last longer.
- With emotions (like cold, hunger, tiredness, sexual desire), the focus is on physical sensation. With feelings, the focus is on the mental content. (Does that mean I can influence my feelings myself?)
- Mood is half emotion, half feeling.
- We should avoid categorizing our emotional and mental processes using abstract terms like "love," says philosopher of language Gilbert Ryle.
- Neuroscience today recognizes seven to nine "states of self," such as the body self, the experiential self, the autobiographical self, and the moral self. Sigmund Freud knew only three states of self: ego, id, and superego.
Last night, before going to bed, I tried the cotton cloth tooth-cleaning method again. The experimental conditions were perfect to test how well the method works. My teeth were noticeably covered with plaque, which I could feel when I ran my tongue over them. I rubbed one front tooth with my finger and a neighboring tooth with a cotton cloth wrapped around my fingertip. The result was clear: while the finger-rubbed tooth still felt rough, the one treated with the cotton cloth was super smooth and felt clean.
The cloth-tooth-cleaning method has a key advantage over using a toothbrush. It removes plaque without wearing down the enamel too much. Since I stopped brushing my teeth in the morning (and only do it in the evening), the enamel on my front tooth has regenerated to the point where the unevenness is gone. My guess is that by switching to this new method, the enamel will be even more preserved, leading to healthier teeth in the long run.
I've also been reflecting on how I see myself in a year (on October 20, 2025):
- I have a perfect sleep routine. I go to bed early because I naturally get tired when it gets dark. I wake up with nature, at sunrise. I feel well-rested after sleep, and my body is well-rejuvenated.
- I’ve resolved my dandruff and hair loss problems. My skin and hair look healthy. My hair is shoulder-length, like Richard David Precht's.
- The habit of eating with my hands is well-established in my life, and I even feel confident eating with my hands in restaurants.
- My relationship with Julia has deepened significantly. We enrich each other. We work out and meditate together, which makes us look fitter, and our default mood is positive. We feel balanced.
- My public diary has become well-known, and I earn enough money from it to live off, allowing me to travel, visit cafés, and attend events.
- By now, I’m a very good swimmer. I can dive and swim long distances.
- After living alone in an apartment for a year, I decide to buy a van (a VW ID Buzz) and try out an entirely new lifestyle — life in a van. I’ve set up a donation account to gather funds for buying the van and have already invested 1,000 euros. By October 25, 2025, I aim to raise 60,000 euros. Please donate! 🙏
From one of my sister’s old cotton t-shirts, I cut out three small square cloths. I'll use these instead of a toothbrush to clean my teeth in the coming days. Do you think this will become my permanent tooth-cleaning method? Tooth-cleaning method without a toothbrush or toothpaste.
The following enlarged image shows an area of my teeth where I think the gum could be healthier (i.e., the gum covering more of the tooth).
Let’s see how the new tooth-cleaning method affects this. In this sense: See ya! 👋
Today, I’m grateful for:
- Exercising and meditating by the sunny lake.
- Deciding to try the most minimalist tooth-cleaning method in the world.
- Reflecting on my future life plans.
