My name is Alexander FufaeV and here I write about:

Piezoelectric Effect: How Material Is Deformed in an Electric Field

If a certain dielectric material (e.g. SiO2) is placed in an external electric field, the atoms shift due to polarization. This in turn causes the material to shorten or lengthen by a very small amount ( in the order of: \( 10^{-10} \mathrm{m}/\mathrm{V} \)). This effect is called the piezoelectric effect.

Piezoelectric materials are used as ultrasonic transducers, sensors, actuators and oscillating crystals in electronic devices.
